The use of iodine-131 radiopharmaceutical in Georgia from a therapeutic and diagnostic point of view in the case of cancerous pathologies of the thyroid gland

Based on the various statistical data published today, the largest share of diseases spread in Georgia comes from various pathologies of the thyroid gland. Particular medical nuclear physics plays a big role in the theraphy and diagnosis of thyroid disasters. The present work is descriptive and refers to the use of radioactive isotope, namely I131, in the treatment and diagnosis of thyroid gland pathologies, which was performed at the nuclear medicine center of Avers Clinic Ltd. The thesis describes the patient's path from thyroidectomy to iodine therapy and from iodine therapy to full recovery. The master's thesis conteins the physical characteristics of I131, the mechanisms of intacellular action and the procedure of administration. Also, the working principles of all used dosimeters . there are given the performed measurements, which are necessary for radiation safety protection.
