In recent years, interest in the content of heavy metals in soils has increased significantly around the world. Heavy metal contaminated soils pose a threat to plant, animal and human health. Madneuli chalcopyrite deposit located in Bolnisi municipality is one of the leading mineral resources of Georgia. The ore-mining enrichment plant operates on the basis of copper-lead-zinc ores. Ores are processed in an open quarry, which pollutes the environment with heavy metals. Our goal was to determine the total content of some heavy metals (Cd, Pb, Zn, Ni, Cu, Mn and Fe) in the soils of Bolnisi, and for comparison also Marneuli municipalities by microwave plasma atomic-emission spectrometry. In addition, distribution of the heavy metals was studied, as well as ecochemical assessment of the environment was performed.
