The biodiversity of apidofauna from Goderdzi Pass as factor of ecosystems stability and sustainability

Goderdzi Pass is located on South-Western part of Georgia and according to its geographical location, is characterized by the mosaic of ecosystems. In its eastern part there are found fragments of the fossil flora of the Tertiary, which is knowns as a unique Natural Monument of world importance – Goderdzi petrified forest and is protected by government. Currently, the following major phytocenoses are present in this area: Subalpine forest vegetation; Vegetation of subalpine shrubs; Subalpine tall herbaceous; Vegetation of subalpine and alpine meadows. All the above mentioned makes investigation of Goderedzi pass very important and received information can be used to reveal its ecosistems conservation importance. The purpose of research was to identify the diversity of Goderdzi Pass apidofauna species; also, identify the rare, endangered and endemic species. Expeditions were conducted during the spring and summer vegetation period. Individuals will be collected using sweeping nets along areas divided into altitudinal transects. Specimens collected in the field labeled with an accurate indication of the location, host plant and the characteristics of the existing ecosystem. The research resulted in the identification of habitat types, the study of both quantitative and taxonomic diversity of faunal and floristic material; The role of insects in the process of pollination is essential. These two groups are in a close symbiotic relationship and contribute to each other's development. Many groups of pollinators are characterized by a particular sensitivity to various environmental irritants and make the population more susceptible to extinction. By their taxonomic and quantitative analysis, bioecology we have determined the biodiversity of apidofauna of specific habitats on Goderdzi Pass.
