Localization of fermions on branes in five dimensional space

In the thesis we discuss 5-dimensional models of spacetime and the mechanism of fermion localization on 4-dimensional subspace, called brane. Some extra-dimensional models of spacetime are reviewed, in particular we have explicitly derived the metric used in the Randal-Sundrum model. Mathematical machinery needed for writing the fermionic action in curved 5-dimensional spacetime is described and the localization of fermions is discussed. It is explicitly shown that in 5-dimensional spacetime one can differentiate the left and right chiral modes and on the visible brane only left fermions can be localized.
